He stands about 6-4 or 6-5 and is strong with an assertive power dribble; I also admired his post work. I had to follow up and ask if he was planning on playing college basketball.
“Yeah I am set on playing, I love basketball!” Farell replied. “I love just playing around, I love pushing myself to be the best I can be, I love how close the team has to be to win, it is by far one of my favorite things in life.”
That’s good news for several D3s that are keeping tabs on the senior post prospect.
“I am looking at Hamline, Lawrence University, Simpson,” Farell said. “The Northland coach has talked to my dad. Augsburg sent me letters, but I haven’t heard from them recently. I was also talking to a D2 school in Manitoba, Canada for a while called Providence. So that is my list of considerations. I have toured Hamline and Lawrence; actually, I stayed overnight at LU the second time I went. I went to a few open gyms at Hamline. I also plan on touring Simpson in the next few weeks.”
For a strong kid who prides himself on rebounding and defense, I had to ask if he was a football player as well.
“I considered going back out because the coaches thought I could be a scholarship-type player,” Farell said. “But in the end my heart wasn’t in it. I also hadn’t played since freshmen year.”
So there you have it — after further investigation, Gus Farell is a senior post prospect looking for a collegiate destination. We think there should be plenty of would-be suitors.
