Continue ReadingNiles Notre Dame 6’6” senior power forward Ammar Becar is one of the most productive high school players in the state of Illinois. Becar has a physical body and is a below the rim big, but his athleticism has shown glimpses of improvement since we saw him in July. The first aspect that stands out with Becar is a never ending motor! He plays harder than any opponent he is on the floor with. He is scrappy and has a nose for the basketball. The senior is a plus jump shooter from mid-range. Becar sets his man up creating space and hits fadeaways from 15-18 feet. Uses hesitation and fakes on the interior to get the defense off balance scoring inside with toughness and getting to the free throw line. Solid rebounder for being undersized.
Becar talked about his role on the team this season.
“Last year it was Joe Mooney at #1 and me as the second option. Now that has totally shifted and I knew going into the season that role would kind of shift towards me. Definitely I am not the best perimeter player, but I can step out and put the ball on the floor and shoot the three. I am the go to guy and Matt Stritzel is the second go to guy.”
Where has he been working on his game?
“Definitely I feel like speed. Even though I was injured that set me back just a little. Getting back into shape and more explosiveness and lateral quickness I think mostly on the perimeter I am able to guard better and hit the three.”
He has interest from a few colleges.
“Lehigh, Western Michigan, Cal Poly. D2’s Delta State and University of Mary. Augustana and a little bit more D3 schools.”
