Champlin Park is 14-3 and ranked No. 5 in Class AAAA. It’s a much different-looking team than last year; with the departure of several impact seniors, youngsters McKinley Wright and Theo John are now expected to be junior leaders. As far as the 2016 class of Rebels, Aaron Kloeppner is one of the lone seniors on the roster and the only one getting consistent playing time.”I think it has developed to where I’m one of the leaders and more of a scorer,” Kloeppner said. “Kin, Theo, and I are the only ones from last year’s team, so we know what it takes to win and we are applying that to this year’s team.
With any young team there’s going to be growing pains, but they’re starting to buy into the system.”Kloeppner is averaging 7.8 PPG as a starter for a CP team that is fresh off a 44-point drubbing of Coon Rapids. As he starts to think of his college options, he’s very much considering a dual-sport commitment at some type of D3 school.“Right now I’m looking to play basketball and/or baseball in college,” Kloeppner said. “I’ve had interest from St. John’s for both, St. Mary’s for baseball and La Crosse for basketball. It’s not a deal breaker if I don’t play both, but it would be cool. At this point I would rather play basketball.”
Kloeppner would like to make a decision in the next month. He most recently visited St. John’s in Collegeville, and he’s looking to pursue a major in business management.
