The latter group not on makes plays but they run their team, control tempo, and make decisions. Another coach on the floor, per say. Here is a list of the top ten floor generals in the state of Arizona.
- Michael Bibby (6’1, SR, Shadow Mountain) – Bibby proved early in his senior year that he is ready to live up to his billing. The game has changed for the Matadors now that the ball is in Bibby’s hands. He makes guys around him better and is still able to score at high levels.
- Tommy Kuhse (6’1, SR, Mesa Mountain View) – Kuhse has the ball in his hands 80% of the game for the Toros. The senior leader is a joy to watch with his crafty style and change of pace. He creates easy scoring opportunities for his teammates, both, in transition and in the half court.
- Cam Miller (5’11, SR, Salpointe Catholic) – A high IQ point guard, it is clear that Miller is the son of a coach. Because he shoots it so well with range opponents have to pressure him. His ball handling and passing ability take over from there as he is able to draw secondary defenders and find teammates.
- Kyle Van Haren (6’0, SR, Perry) – Van Haren isn’t much of a talker but he has the presence of a leader. He has a great feel for the game and makes good decisions with the ball in his hands. He gets the ball to the right place at the right time.
- Jake Rueter (6’2, SR, Seton Catholic) – Rueter is the playmaker for Seton Catholic Academy. The senior guard scores it at a high level so when he puts the ball on the floor he draws attention from other defenders allowing him to open up scoring opportunities for his teammates.
- Jovan Blackshear (5’9, FR, Shadow Mountain) – He’s young but, already, Blackshear’s impact has been felt for the state’s top AIA team. Jovan backs up Michael Bibby and fills a very similar role as a reserve. He is very good at controlling tempo, often pushing in transition, and getting the ball where it needs to be.
- Tarik Cool (6’1, SR, Desert Vista) – Because of the players around him, Cool often plays off the ball this season with the Thunder but he is the clear floor general…calling the shots and getting people where they need to be when it’s crunch time.
- Habib Orogundade (5’8, JR, Millennium) – Orogundade proved on the travel circuit that he is a heckuva leader. He led Arizona Power Red past many of the top teams in the state including Arizona Power Black. He pushed it in transition, controlled tempo, and made plays when they needed to be played. On the high school circuit he is counted on to score more but it doesn’t take away from his leadership abilities.
- Donald Carter (6’0, JR, Cesar Chavez) – Carter has been a playmaker throughout his career. The junior guard plays a tough, physical brand and loves to draw defenders to find teammates
. - Cesar Ozuna (5’9, SR, Sunnyside) – Ozuna plays with a high level of confidence. The senior guard understands when to push the ball and when to settle his offense. He has the ability to make plays for himself and his teammates off the bounce and has ice in his veins to make those plays in the most clutch moments.
