Don’t be surprised to see them meet St. Croix Lutheran somewhere down the road, and you can bet both coaches are watching each other’s games today. Caledonia reeled off a 14-2 run to pull ahead 28-16, and, well, it was one-sided after that. The Warriors pulled ahead by as much as 30 and controlled the latter 2/3rds of the game.
Player Notes
Owen King, Caledonia — With Sorenson off to Bemidji State, King becomes the Warriors’ top threat. He exudes confidence, even as just a sophomore. He’s smooth, efficient, and crafty. RJ would love the way he’s defending passing lanes. Bombed a 3 from NBA range. Showed off a really smooth behind-the-back lay-up on a fast break that had the crowd wowed. Totaled 28.
Gavin Schroeder, Caledonia — I continue to be a big fan of this kid as a D3 recruit ever since he came to the NHR Combine this fall. He’s 6-foot-5 and bouncy, finishing well for Caledonia and providing a post presence. Ended with 14 points.
Colton Lampert, Caledonia — The “Senior Samurai” has his ponytail in constant flow as he glides down the court with a high-running motor. He thinks a step ahead and is determined to get teammates involved. He and King are the perfect energy guys for Cal’s backcourt.
Noah King, Caledonia — I normally avoid hyping 8th graders, but it really looks like the King family will be running the show at Caledonia for the forseeable future. Owen’s younger bro, Noah is already more built than his sibling. He plays with a fearlessness that now appears to be a family trait.
Corian Davis, DeForest — Davis had 7 points, but that led DeForest. I liked his burst, his control with the ball, and I think he could be a pretty solid WIAC prospect. He was elected player of the game by the MW Classic, with a real lack of options, truthfully.
