After playing his summer ball on the Adidas Circuit with New Orleans Elite, he was able to prove himself. In camps and big games alike, his athleticism always stands out.
When asked about his commitment, Matt said, “LSUA has one of the top academic programs in Louisiana; and also I really love the environment of the school. It’s a great place to earn a degree.” Always great to see academics becoming a focus. “They have a really good coaching staff and a really good team that won a ring last year and I think I could come right in and help them get a couple more, while getting a good degree.”
With two senior point guards graduating from LSU-Alexandria, plenty of playing time will open up. That likely influenced his decision to commit to LSUA this morning. He is not a recruit that is enamored with the process and ending it in a quiet manner is fitting for him.
PCA Director Bill Leahy had this to say about the Matt and the commitment, “Matt Thomas is the first basketball commit for the PCA Paladins. Matt came to PCA as a boy who played basketball, but Matt is leaving PCA as a man equipped to move onto the next phase of his life; which we are happy to say will be at LSUA. Matt’s progress on the court is obvious and his off court maturation has been a great thing to be a part of. Matt is blessed to be moving on from PCA’s Coach James Parlow to the LSUA coaching staff which also consists of men of high character who not only teach basketball, but also invest in the life of the player. The Paladins are proud of Matt!”
PCA is undefeated on the season through 16 games and ranked in the Top 10 nationally for Home School teams. In November during the latest rankings, PCA moved up to 9th place. Thomas is averaging around 23 points per game in the games where stats were reported. He’s doing so while shooting 62% from the field and 43% from the three point line.
