SG Cardell McGee (Springfield Lanphier – 2018)
Rangy and projectable combo guard that is smooth in transition. Handles have greatly improved. Nice mid-range jumper. Flashes upside. D1 prospect had 5 points.
C Tyler Joest (Breese Central – 2018)
Joest is a 6’7” post that emerged on the radar with his play at the Highland Shootout. He has a long and lanky frame that he will need to continue to add strength to finish better around the hoop. Great mobility. He flashes quickly to the ball where he can convert an alley-oop or drill a short jumper. Potential as a shot blocker with his great length. Still learning the game! He had 7 points.
SG Caleb Frederking (Okawville – 2018)
Frederking can also shoot the ball like his older brother. Plus shooter that can handle it a little. Shows flashes in limited minutes. He had 6 points.
C Carte’Are Gordon (Vianney, MO – 2018)
Elite prospect at 6’8” with his combination of strength and mobility. Knows how to use his body on the interior to get position and finish on the interior. Likes working in the high/low as a finisher. Seals well when receiving the basketball and moving in the paint. At times makes some spectacular moves in the open floor handling the ball including one where he went behind his back, one on one, and finished with a spin. That tends to lead to him trying to do it too much however. Conditioning and more consistent effort on defense are areas of improvement. Rebounds at a high rate and can block shots. Solid passer for a post player. The high major prospect had 28 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
PF Jontay Porter (Tolton, MO – 2018)
Could not have been more impressed by this 6’10” post. When I saw him at Nike Elite 100 in June all he wanted to do was set out on the perimeter and shoot threes. This was a different player! The skilled lefty has a well-rounded game. He was a major shot blocking presence on the interior using his length and anticipation to block shots while not fouling. Porter can really shoot it from the perimeter with a couple threes that looked smooth. Skilled passer that has a great feel for the game out of both the post and on the perimeter. He had 10 points, 10 blocks, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Porter is committed to Washington.
SF Jericole Hellems (Chaminade, MO – 2018)
Athletic and big sophomore wing that has potential. Excels in the open floor where he can use his long strides and athleticism to score. He had 12 points. Fairly active for a young prospect. Projects as Chaminade’s next star down the line.
