Strengths:
Small college prospects. There is a large number of quality kids at the D3 and NAIA levels across the board. Guys that might be lacking size or aren’t complete players to play at the highest level, but are productive enough to compete at the small college level. Undersized bigs that fight hard, shooting specialists, and small dynamic point guards are up and down the rankings.
Point Guard. The lead guard position has quite a bit to like at various levels. It is led by high major guards Charlie Moore and Devin Gage. The other part to like is that it has different types of guards with scorers, defenders, shooters, and pass first floor generals. This is the one position that there is someone to like for everyone.
Weaknesses:
The most glaring weakness is the lack of D1 talent. There are various levels of D1 programs with high major, mid-major, and low-major schools. The depth at each one of these levels just isn’t there. As of now there are 23 division one commitments with the likelihood that number will end up around 30. This is a far cry from the usual 50-60 potential talents that we have seen over the past few years and will see again in 2017.
Elite prospects. There are five or six high-major players in this class, but none of them are top 25 national McDonald’s All-Americans. No Jabari, Jahlil, Cliff, or Jalen in this group.
Post play. There isn’t a ton of quality post prospects in this class. Once you get past the top few at both the power forward and center positions there are a lot of questions marks with projectablity, potential vs production, and just overall not a ton of big men that will make impacts at their respective levels.
