Matt Downey 6’2 PG Boulder Creek – Some may argue that Downey is not a secondary star for the Jaguars but, for the most part, it is Nick Johnson that has received the majority of BC’s accolades. Matt, however, has had a big part in Nick’s and his team’s success as he is able to draw defenders with his ability to make plays for himself and others. A D2/NAIA D1 prospect.
DJ Hamilton 6’4 SF Desert Vista – Hamilton has never been the man for the Thunder and most would argue that he has never been the secondary star either. However, he has always been an impactful member of DV’s roster due to his versatility and productivity. He rebounds at a high level, defenders multiple positions, and makes plays in the paint that supplement players like Caleb Simmons and Tarik Cool. A D3/NAIA D2 prospect.
Tyrell Henderson 6’4 SG Corona del Sol – Henderson is not a high major prospect like Alex Barcello or Saben Lee but what he has always been is a consistent player on both ends of the floor that has made the necessary plays when needed. He can makes shots from the perimeter, draw fouls off the bounce, and defender his opponent’s best player. Singed with Portland State.
Tony Licavoli 6’7 PF Gilbert Christian – With the departure of guards Dontez Thomas and Jaden Lee and the unfortunate injury to Cam Satterwhite the Knights have needed someone to step up and complement star Mitch Lightfoot. Licavoli’s shooting presence on the perimeter have helped to fill some of that void as he provides a great option as an outside threat to keep the defense honest. A D2/NAIA D1 prospect.
Jacob Nicolds 6’5 SF Gilbert – Chris Bowling has received all the recruiting attention for the Tigers, for the most part, but Nicolds has been a huge key to their success the last couple of years. We’ve mentioned his unheralded contributions numerous times on this site and will continue to do so. A ‘glue guy’ Jacob does all the dirty work to free up his teammates for open shots and extra possessions. A small college level prospect.
John Trendler 6’8 C Mountain View – Tommy Kuhse has blown up regionally with his ability to make plays off the bounce. However, a lot of the Toros’ success is because of Trendler’s inside presence. He keeps the defense honest when their guards penetrate and has gotten them a lot of extra possessions with his activity on the offensive glass. Also, playing on a team with guards who aren’t overly quick laterally, his presence in the paint on defense makes up for his teammates who may get out-quicked by their assignment. A D2/NAIA D1 prospect.
Malique Washington 5’11 PG McClintock – Amiri Chukwuemeka will go down as one of the all time best players at McClintock High School. However, a lot of his success may not have been possible without fellow Charger Malique Washington. Malique’s ability to create off the bounce and draw attention from opponents has opened up numerous scoring opportunities for Amiri and teammates. He’s a tough, hard nosed competitor who plays both ends of the floor. A small college prospect.
