The Washington Post reported on Thursday that Kabir, an exchange student who’s here from Nigeria and averaging about 17 points per game this season, sent a letter to the school’s athletic department along with the NCAA earlier this month trying to get out of the letter-of-intent.
He saw pictures on social media that the Post said “[had] cadets singing Christmas Carols while wearing white pillowcases over their heads in costumes that resembled those worn by the Ku Klux Klan.”
The incident clearly upset Kabir.
“It was messed up,” Kabi said in The Post. “I talked to my family and my coach about the situation, and it was not a good move for me because this is not the first time something like this has happened at The Citadel.”
If the school won’t release him from the letter, he could transfer but lose a letter of eligibility. School officials told The Post they’ve received his letter and now are reviewing it.
