Javon Pickett (Belleville East)
Pickett is lengthy 6’4” shooting guard that has a great frame to add strength onto. He is a smooth scorer that can get buckets at all three levels with ease. Pickett has elevated his game this season as we saw him drop 41 points in their opening victory. This junior might have one of the highest ceilings in the state’s 2017 class. Committed to Illinois.
Elijah Joiner (Curie)
The 6’3” junior guard plays with a great motor and a lot of confidence. He has speed with the ball in the open floor and handles it well being strong with the basketball. Joiner is an outstanding jump shooter that knocks them down in the pull up game for days! He has smooth mechanics and elevation on his shot. Also shoots it well in the catch and shoot from three point territory. Flashes passing skill that shows he could play some combo if needed. Aggressive defensively pressuring the ball and getting up in his opponent making them uncomfortable. Mid-major prospect for sure if not more.
Coreyoun Rushin (Westinghouse)
The Westinghouse 6’6” wing is an elite athlete that excels in the paint with his incredible jumping ability where he finishes above the rim and gets on the offensive glass. His game continues to round out as he has shown the ability to handle it, pass, and even stretch his jumper out to three. Defensively he has a chance to be special. Mid-major kid that is skyrocketing!
Romon Douglas-Watkins (Peoria Manual)
Douglas-Watkins is starting to develop his all-around game. The 6’6” wing is known for being a slasher that can score in bunches. He is very aggressive taking it to the cup and scoring in the paint. When we have evaluated him early in the season he has shown more however. He hit a couple of jump shots from mid-range. Mechanically has a bit of hitch in it that will need to be refined moving forward. He hit the glass on both ends of the floor high pointing rebounds. Passed the ball the best I have ever seen him making great feeds to teammates. Defensively he was a monster with his length and athleticism both blocking shots and causing turnovers. Quality mid-major target!
Demarius Jacobs (Uplift)
Jacobs is an athletic and thinly built 6’3” shooting guard that doesn’t force bad shots. The junior is quick off the dribble and slippery through traffic where he can finish at the rim. He is a plus three point shooter with a smooth release mechanically and it is consistently repeatable. Jacobs is an above average rebounder for his position skiing high above bigger opponents for many of them. Mid-major prospect in the 2017 class.
Marvin Bateman (Belleville Althoff)
Bateman is a lethal catch and shoot weapon at 6’5”. He might be one of the best pure shooters regardless of class in the state. Bateman has a free flowing release with smooth mechanics and a quick release. He loves to let it fly from the corners and wings. Also can hit a pull up three. Solid defender with his length. Next step in development will be showing more off the bounce. He needs to be on the mid-major and low-major radar for sure!
Dwayne Rose (Crete-Monee)
The 6’3” guard can hit an array of jump shots including threes and pull up jumpers. Jumper has good form, but he can settle for it a bit too much at times. When he does drive shows quickness off the bounce and strength in the paint. Cuts well away from the ball. Improving as a passer. Worth consideration by low-major D1 programs after a strong junior campaign.
Elijah Ward (Joliet West)
Ward is a 6’5” small forward with long arms and great mobility. He has some strength in his upper body. Handles it well in the open floor and can guard on the perimeter. Skill set is still emerging, but there is a lot of potential there. Sound wing rebounder. One to continue to track.
Jared Scott (Oak Park River Forest)
Scott is a 6’5” big bodied left handed small forward with solid length. He shows quite a bit of perimeter skill attacking with ease off the bounce. Uses a jab step to set up strong takes to the hoop. Scott is effective using his quickness around the hoop to finish through multiple defenders and shoot a high percentage on the interior. Quality rebounder for position.
Jaylan Catledge (Richards)
Catledge is a 6’5” power wing that is constantly in attack mode. He is impressive with his ability to get in the lane and finish through contact. The junior is explosive and powerful around the hoop. He handles it well and can also use a runner to score. Shows he can post up smaller defenders on the block. Needs to work on his jump shot. Plus rebounder for his position. Worth a look at the low-major and D2 level going forward.
Rowan McGowen (Wheaton North)
This 6’5” shooting guard has been putting up some significant numbers early in the season. McGowen has quality size for position and an above average skill with his perimeter shooting. He loves to let it fly in the catch and shoot. The guard shows deep range. Shot release could start a bit higher, but it is effective. Moves well without the ball to get open on flares and curling off screens. Needs to improve his ability to create own shot.
Jared Murphy (Rolling Meadows)
At 6’4” Murphy has size and is a plus shooter from deep. He has range out to three, but was most effective attacking off the bounce showing improved quickness and athleticism. He scores well in the lane finishing through defenders and also gets to the charity stripe. Potential low-major prospect that right now is probably more D2.
