While we did not see the first match (American Fork vs Chaparral) or the final match (Corona del Sol vs Federal Way) we did see every game in between and they did not disappoint.
Jay Green 6’5” G 2016 Mountain Ridge
Green had quite the game for Mountain Ridge. After hitting a few shots early in the first half the 6’5″ senior completed dominated the second. He was excellent in transition, getting to the paint whenever he wanted to score or draw fouls. He also played very physically on the defensive end. His team, however, would fall short, losing to Archbishop Wood 56-54.
Darius Jackson 6’4” SF 2016 Clark (NV)
Jackson had a very nice performance in a lopsided win over Loyola Academy (IL). A physically imposing wing, Darius’ athleticism was on display as he blew by opponents in transition, sliced defenders in the half court, and had a lot of acrobatic finishes at the rim. A Division-I quality prospect, Jackson will need the junior college route next season.
Tommy Kuhse 6’1” PG 2016 Mountain View
Kuhse was dominant in the Toros’ game against Perry. He scored 16 of his team’s 27 first half points on 7/12 shooting from the field. He hit big shot after big shot all night and made plays, not only for himself but for his teammates. He finished with 24 points in their narrow victory over the Pumas.
Tyree Pickron 6’3” SG 2018 Archbishop Wood (PA)
Pickron was very good in Archbishop’s matchup against Mountain Ridge. The 6’3″ sophomore was fearless, playing with a lot of confidence. He knocked down shots from the perimeter, used change of pace in transition, and finished at the rim with both hands. He played a large part in Archbishop’s win over Mountain Ridge.
Caleb Simmons 6’5” SG 2017 Desert Vista
Simmons was great for the Thunder. He was consistent on both ends of the floor. Caleb attacked off the bounce, finished at the rim, and made outside shots. He also defended multiple positions, drew fouls in transition, and rebounded at a high level.
Chris Williams 6’4” SG 2017 Orange Lutheran (CA)
Williams was the best performer in the gym on Tuesday. The junior swingman scored the ball at a very high level. He is very physical, got to the paint whenever he wanted with straight line drives and was poise enough to make great decisions when he got there. He also hit tough shot after tough shot was was a man on the glass. After a close first half Orange Lutheran dominated Gilbert 59-40.
Throughout the week we will release more detailed scouting reports on each individual contest from Tuesday’s action.
