Over the next week we will be breaking down our list of the top 20 overall player/prospects in the state of Arizona considering potential, projection, and production.
20. Holland Woods 5’11” PG 2017 Apollo
When it comes to pure basketball talent, not many are in the same league as Woods. The 5’11” junior is as good as just about any player in the state with the ball in his hands. Boo Boo’s ability to breakdown defenders off the bounce serves him well especially when you consider his ability to make shots from the perimeter. His decision making needs to improve and he needs to cut down his touch time but, make no doubts about it, he is a heckuva talent and currently projects as a high low major prospect.
19. Channel Woods 6’4″ SG 2017 Hillcrest Prep
Woods is a newcomer to the state of Arizona but his impact has been noted as the top guard on Hillcrest Prep’s National High School team. The 6’4″ is an aggressive scorer with good size and a solid skill level. He can handle the ball, shoot it off the catch and off the bounce, and is also relentless attacking the basket. He is a high low major prospect.
18. Klay Stall 6’9″ C 2016 Basha
Stall is a big bodied post that plays within himself. While not overly athletic, he is mobile, strong, and has a wide upper frame. He uses what he has to his advantage as he focuses on rebounding, altering shots, and finishing at the basket. The low mid major prospect has signed to play at Utah State, a very successful mid major program.
17. Nigel Shadd 6’8″ PF 2017 Tri-City
Shadd has long been considered one of the top interior players in the 2017 class. The 6’8″ junior showed what he could do against national level competition on the travel circuit. He is great at altering and blocking shots and plays with a motor on the glass. He has continuously improved his touch at the rim as well. A mid major prospect, look for the lanky power forward to continue to develop and improve his stock throughout the winter and spring.
16. Caleb Simmons 6’5″ SG 2017 Desert Vista
Simmons’ ability to be a two way player is as good as any wing in the state. The 6’5″ junior can handle the ball, make shots from the perimeter, and defend multiple positions. As he steps into a leadership role he should only see his effectiveness improve. He is a mid major prospect.
