SG Tim Finke (Champaign Central _ 2018)
The state’s top prospect regardless of class is the 6’5” shooting guard from Central. He is making the transition after play at Centennial last year. He opened up strong knocking down two catch and shoot triples to begin the game. Finke is a plus plus shooter with excellent form and mechanics on his jump shot. He gets it off with a quick release. What also makes him effective is his ability to move without the basketball. Finke is great coming off curls and screens moving with a purpose. His jumper was a bit streaky going 4-11 from three point territory and shooting just 7-21 overall from the field. At times he settled for pull up jumpers from mid-range which just weren’t falling consistently. Finke did get to the charity stripe at a nice clip connecting on 10-12 from the line. Hit the glass skiing for several contested boards. Would have liked to see him be a little more aggressive taking it to the cup as we saw in July. Finke finished with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Without question the state’s top 2018 prospect.
PG Syshonne Lymone (North Chicago _ 2018)
Lymone is a 6’0” guard with a long and rangy frame. He stood out with his feel for the game as a passer with several sweet dishes in the half court especially quick passes on the interior. Smooth with the basketball. Can be a little too flashy at times. Didn’t really look to score too much other than an offensive rebound put back. Defensively was slow reacting on the perimeter. A lot of intriguing offensive skill here through.
SG Cardell McGee (Springfield Lanphier _ 2018)
Despite McGee only shooting 1-5 from the field I thought he had an effective game. The first thing that stands out is how much more aggressive he was than when we saw him in the summer. He has improved his ball handling and was attacking the paint getting to the charity stripe. Projectable frame with great size. He has long strides when pushing the ball in transition. Impressed as a passer showing a much better feel for the game and has combo guard potential going forward. McGee had 6 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds. Future D1 recruit.
SF Kale Catchings (CBC, MO _ 2018)
Catching is a long, rangy, and super athletic wing. The bouncy three man had several big dunks. Hit the offensive glass for put backs. Slashes well on the baseline which is an area that he likes to work. Catchings hits the glass with his elite hops. Went for 14 points and 10 rebounds. Mid-majors and low-majors should monitor him early in his career.
PF Karl Wright (Springfield Lanphier _ 2019)
This Lanphier 6’6” freshman power forward has a long and lanky frame that is projectable going forward as far as growth and strength. Already has solid strength in his arms. Big time athlete that runs the floor well. Played very little, but definitely one to track going forward.
