Continue ReadingEthan Freidel is a junior guard from Tea Area that grabbed state headlines last week going toe to toe with Ty Hoglund in an explosive game. Hoglund set a school record for points but Freidel had 30 matching Hoglund for most of the game.
What put Freidel over for the award was scoring 25 points in his other game of the week which was a blowout over MCM in which Ethan scored his 25 barely playing half of the game.
“I am very blessed,” Freidel said after learning of earning the player of the week honor. “I know this is an individual reward so I am proud of myself for fighting through tough times and playing well overall.
“I’m also proud of being the only junior and getting placed next to kids I’ve looked up to. I’d like to thank Prep Hoops for selecting me as a candidate! There was very good competition so I am blessed for opportunity to be candidates with them, but the season still goes on.
“I hope to be playing good basketball and I hope to be selected again as a candidate for player of the week!”
Tea Area is 2-2 after playing Dell Rapids, Centerville, MCM, and Dakota Valley. They had a game with Deuel cancelled because of a power outage last Tuesday but the tough schedule goes on as Tea play Vermillion this Tuesday.
“The first game was a little bumpy because we had a few freshman playing who didn’t quite get the speed of the game yet, but they are learning very quickly and I feel like they help us out a ton,” Freidel said about the start of the season.
“At 2-2 on the year so far we look to learn from our mistakes and take the season 1 game at a time. I feel like this is going to be a great year and coming March we will be playing our best basketball.”
Ethan put in a ton of off-season work playing with BBA, playing in events with Tea, going to camps and combines, and of course working out on his own.
“I feel like I’ve played very well! My main threat is scoring but I am also a very good passer. I will look to get my teammates involved as much as I can because without them I wouldn’t be playing the way I have been.”
