Continue ReadingThere has been a lot of buzz recently about 1A school Sandoval’s 2016 guard duo of Laron Anderson and Brandon Williams putting up monster numbers. Tuesday night they took on small school power Dieterich who has several quality prospects of their own. Sandoval stayed with them for most of the night, but Dieterich got the win 65-58.
PF Travis Niemberg (Dieterich – 2016)
This 6’5” power forward has nice length and solid strength. He does a lot of his damage on the offensive glass with quick put backs on rebounds. Niemberg can also step out to hit the 12-15 foot baseline jump shot. Solid athlete that can use it to finish around the hoop including a nice up and under. Could be a little more aggressive overall. Solid rebounder and can block a shot every now and then. He had 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Solid D3/NAIA candidate.
SG Nick Feldhake (Dieterich – 2016)
Feldhake is a shooting guard that did a lot of his damage creating turnovers into points on the other end. He had four steals on the night and took several of them the other way for layups. Was active defensively on the wing of their zone. Hit a couple threes with a line drive shot and is a decent passer. Not the greatest athlete, but knows how to play the game. Worth a D3/NAIA look in the right situation. He had 15 points.
PG Laron Anderson (Sandoval – 2016)
Anderson is a 5’8” point guard that is quick and shifty with the ball in his hands. The southpaw likes to be flashy with the rock using lots of behind the back dribbles. Sometimes can be a little too flashy and try to play one on one which causes turnovers. Slippery through traffic and finishes well through contact at the hoop converting and-1’s through post players by drawing contact and still getting the ball up on the rim. Active hands defensively. Quickness and speed in the open floor pushing the ball are evident in his game. Solid free throw shooter. Shoots a good ball from deep they just weren’t going down consistently although he did hit a tough step back three with defenders draped on him. To reach his full potential he will need to continue to develop as a distributor. Quality D3/NAIA prospect. He had 20 points.
SG Brandon Williams (Sandoval – 2016)
Williams is the definition of toughness and motor. The 6’2” shooting guard has good strength in his upper body and is best attacking the hoop with straight line drives from the wing or going baseline. He attacks the rim with a lot of authority and isn’t afraid going through whoever is in his way to get his bucket. He had several aggressive drives in the first half and then went down with an ankle injury in the second quarter on one of those drives that sidelined him for the rest of the half. He fought through the pain coming back in the second half and contributing. Hit a couple jump shots including a top of the key three late. Mechanics at the top of the release point need a little work, but he does get lift on the shot. As a passer showed some flare on the interior for making quality decisions when there was an open teammate for layup. Plus plus rebounder for his size as he competes incredibly hard on the boards on both ends of the floor. Defensively he will need to make improvements with his lateral foot speed to defend at the next level. He had 20 points, 14 rebounds, and 2 assists while missing a good portion of the second quarter. Worth consideration at the D3/NAIA level.
