The 6-foot-2 junior is now a reserve guard with the Eagles, and is looking forward to perhaps see his recruitment spike with his new team.
“I thought the switch would be a better look for me for colleges. With National Christian Academy there’s a lot of coaches in the gym,” said Thompson, who explained his role with NCA.
“At Douglass it was pretty much just play hard, step-up on defense and shoot when I was open. With National Christian I’m a point guard, and my role is defense, I can check anybody on the court.”
Thompson spent his 16U grassroots season with Team Takeover, and says he worked to improve his handle and athleticism.
“My handles got better, during the summer I learned how to control the ball a lot more, and my athleticism improved,” he said. “I also took a lot of pride in my defense.”
When we last talked with Thompson in May, it was North Carolina D2 Livingstone College that was the only school he has heard from. He has not heard from them since, but has picked up some contact from two other schools.
“I picked up some interest from Chowan University (NC) and Hampton University. And I’m really dedicated to getting offers this year,” said Thompson.
He added: “This winter I have to play hard to pick up my recruitment, and this is my last year of AAU so this whole year I have to play hard so I can get an offer. Whatever it takes, I got to to play hard. I need to get into college.”
