The 6’1” rangy shooting guard played great at the end of his freshman season and is putting up big scoring numbers as a sophomore. The lefty has a sweet looking jump shot that he consistently knocks down in the catch and shoot. Also is effective pulling up with it from mid-range. Handles in the half court continue to improve as he is slippery with the rock. In transition he has speed and handles well in the open floor. Makes crisp passes as a distributor. Defensively he is quick and makes plays getting deflections and playing help D. Definitely has D1 potential and should be looked at by mid-major and low-major programs.
Payne talked about how it is going early in the season.
“We started off pretty good playing together. We were around each other a lot this summer playing together so we have team chemistry going.”
How does he feel he has played?
“I think I have been playing good individually. My teammates have been getting me involved. I am making shots and passing.”
The sophomore broke down what he brings to the table at the next level.
“I would say I am a lengthy guard that is very versatile and athletic.”
