Breon Gannon is getting set to play his first season of varsity ball with Woodlawn, and he’s ready for the exposure.
The talented combo-guard says his recruitment has not yet gotten off the ground, but he’s working to make it happen.
“I’ve gotten a couple of emails from (Division II) Virginia Union and that’s about it, I got those last summer,” said Gannon.
“I hope my recruitment comes together. I’m working on my grades because I know that’s what they look at the most. I just hope they come for for me, and it doesn’t really matter who, it’s what I’m striving for though.”
After spending his offseason playing on the 16U grassroots circuit, Gannon says his jump shot is better and his confidence is up.
“I worked on my game, especially my shot, it’s falling better now,” he said. “I’m more confident with the ball, and I was working with a trainer, and I feel very confident going into my junior year.”
The 6-foot combo guard went on to describe his playing style to PHM.
“I like attacking the basket, finding open shots, and I like screening to get my teammates open, and I run the floor well,” said Gannon. “I probably need to work on my decision-making, but I want it to get better. And also I want to be more explosive, I’m explosive now, but I want it to get better.”
Gannon projects to be a starting wing with the Warriors when their season starts next week, and he’s excited to get his varsity career underway.
“It’s (varsity ball) fast-paced and I really like it because I’m a fast person. And there’s a lot more talent, stronger players that will basically get me ready for the next level. And the people I play with are good role models for me and that makes me a better player and a better person,” said Gannon.
“My role will be to just to lead the team. I’ll need to take smart shots and score, and be a unique player for them basically.”
