Continue ReadingPekin 6’4” senior small forward Austin Juergens has a strong build and good length. Makes aggressive moves to the hoop and knows how to use his body to shield the defender and create space. Gets to the line at a good clip and knocks down his free throws. Tough kid that rebounds the basketball. Worth a look at the D3/NAIA level.
Juergens spoke about his role as a senior.
“I am one of the captains and leaders of the team. I feel they rely on me to get us going.”
The wing broke down his game and what he feels his strengths are as a player
“I would say I am more of a slasher with a three point shot too. I can play pretty much anywhere on the court. I can play the one. I can guard the five.”
He ran with the Peoria Heat 17U on the circuit this spring and summer.
“We played really good. We lost to Meanstreets by five. Played good against Howard Pulley. Played good overall. It made me get my mind quicker when I am guarding teams like East St. Louis. It makes me get my mind right and not be slower than everyone else.”
He has varying levels of interest from a few college programs.
“ICC, Western Illinois, and I have talked to University of Illinois Springfield.”
What will he be looking for in a school?
“A great academic school and a coaching staff that is very welcoming. Treats everyone like a family.”
