Cota has been at NCHS since his freshman year. Toward the end of his freshman year he started playing on the varsity. Since then, Cota has been a starter for the Rattlers and head coach Mike O’Guinn. Cota has played AAU since middle school with the Arizona Rebels AAU organization playing against some of the top talent on the west coast. This past spring/summer Cota decided to take time off of AAU to recover from some minor injuries as well as work on his craft as a player which would pay off big time.
The past few season, Cota & the Rattlers have spent time playing in a very tough division 1 (5A) region against the states best teams. Those teams, players & coaches know who Cota is, always playing tough against the state’s best and brightest. This season the Rattlers made the move down to division 3 (3A) and have already found themselves on the side of victory a number of times. The Rattlers started their season off with a big win over Cactus Shadows and have followed it up with wins against fellow D3 competitors.
This past weekend at the Horizon Holiday Invite, Cota was named tournament MVP despite his team finishing in 4th place, and also was named PrepHoops Arizona Horizon Holiday Invite MVP. Cota was a scoring machine for the Rattlers averaging 38 points per game that featured two 40+ scoring nights. Cota also was able to make an impact on both ends of the floor defending, rebounding and keeping his teammates involved.
Cota is beginning to pick up some college interest hearing from local junior colleges and NAIA program. Look for Cota to lead North Canyon on a deep playoff run in division 3.
