Breckner had a heckuva game against Arcadia, leading his team from a 45-32 deficit mid way through the third before scoring almost every point to tie the game at 49 right before the 4th. He is a skilled ball handler with a great shot and a lot of toughness. Deven will need to grow in stature and girth before being considered a college prospect but, as of right now, he’s definitely a fun player to watch.
Bryce Davis 66î F 2018 Deer Valley
Bryce has improved a ton over the past season. The 6’6″ forward looks a lot more confident in his new role as the go to interior player. Davis has a very soft touch around the rim. He finished very well against sizey, athletic defenders and was able to knock down some mid range shots. He was also a shot alterer on the defensive end due to his length.
Matt Downey 62î PG 2016 Boulder Creek
Downey was impressive, not because he’s added a ton to his game but because he’s grown physically. Now standing 6’2″ Matt is a legitimate prospect for the Division-II/NAIA D1 levels. The skilled point guard has shown improved consistency in his jumpshot and is still the playmaker he’s always been. He plays the game with good poise and has a lot of transferrable skills to the next level.
Nick Johnson 64î SG 2016 Boulder Creek
Johnson had a very strong showing, earning MVP honors as Boulder Creek took home the title. The 6’4″ sharpshooter is not implementing his athleticism as he was able to anticipate and run out for steal fast breaks and get a lot of rebounds at the rim. He also looks much more confident handling the basketball.
Jeff Perez 60î SG 2017 Apollo
Perez had a solid week as the third option in a very talented Apollo perimeter group. He played with great poise, played within himself, and knocked down shots when it counted.
Elijah Sikora 64î SF 2016 Arcadia
No player improved their stock more over the weekend than Sikora. As a junior Elijah was a 6’4″ reserve post but, since moving to the wing, has been able to showcase his perimeter abilities which are better than expected. Sikora is a lengthy and athletic swingman with a high motor. He’s got the ability to put the ball on the floor and make plays at the rim. He also consistently knocked in open shots. Where Elijah looked best was as a help side defender. Though he had trouble keeping quicker guys in front of him he has the potential to be a shutdown defender due to his athleticism and length. He just needs improved technique.
Malique Washington 60î PG 2016 McClintock
Malique had a very nice showing over the weekend. The 6’0″ point guard was aggressive and did what he does best…attacked the rim relentlessly where he normally either scored or drew a foul. Washington’s perimeter defense was also thoroughly impressive, especially in the first half against a trio of Apollo guards.
