–Give DeMatha credit for passing an early-season test. The private-school powerhouse beat Henry A. Wise, 66-53, in a tough match-up last weekend.
The Stags got double-digit efforts from three different players: Nate Darling (16 points), Markelle Fultz (15) and Josh Carlton (13) to take care of much of the offense in the win. They combined for 44 of their team’s points.
The Pumas also had three players finish in double figures but it wasn’t enough to match DeMatha. Darron Barnes scored a game-high 23 points in the loss.
DeMatha improved to 5-0 with the victory
–National Christian scored a big win at last weekend’s National High School Hoops Festival, topping API Prep (Tex.), 73-67.
Christian Matthews led the way with 25 points in the win. The Washington Post reported that Mohammed Kabir was named the game’s Most Valuable Player thanks to his 20-point, nine-rebound effort.
National Christian improved to 4-0 with this win.
–Revenge was sweet for John Carroll last weekend in its second meeting with Calvert Hall.
Calvert Hall beat John Carroll 64-63 in an earlier meeting last month but this game belonged to the Patriots.
The Baltimore Sun reported that Nemanja Knezevic led the way with 20 points, Immanuel Quickly scored 13 while Mike Tertsea was a force inside with 12 points as John Carroll rolled to a 62-38 win.
