Continue ReadingThe 2017 New Orleans Elite duo of Lamont Berzat (5’8 PG, Landry-Walker) and Davontavean Martin (6’4 G, Ellender) decided last night to commit to the University of New Orleans. Over the summer they won the Adidas Gauntlet Championship as part of the starting backcourt for NO Elite and decided to continue their career together.
Martin is ranked number 9 overall in our Louisiana Prep Hoops 2017 rankings while Berzat is ranked 12th. Martin has been arguably one of the hottest names in the state in any class as of late and Berzat is perhaps one of the best leaders and tough point guards out there. Together, they could give UNO one of the best incoming backcourts in 2017 in their conference.
Tae Martin had this to say about the timing and why he chose UNO, “It just felt like the right time because me and Lamont know we have summer ball together so we gonna continue our chemistry and we always talked about how UNO just made us feel like family.”
Berzat echoed similar sentiments that night via text, “The moment when Coach Sless first got the job at UNO and he used to come in the gym and watch me train, we made a connection and I knew that it was the right spot for me.”
UNO has clearly done a fantastic job and making local kids feel like family. Both Martin and Berzat are from the New Orleans and surrounding areas and it is a fantastic job by the staff to keep two promising young local kids home.
