Continue ReadingThe game started out a bit sloppy, but after the two teams settled down, it was an exciting battle with some nice passing and ball movement on both sides. Of course, as the first half went on, Arbor Prep utilized a dangerous attack in transition led by Kyle Hayes to jump out in front. By halftime, the score was 46-20.
In the third quarter, Arbor Prep was able to put some distance between it and Melvindale and pushed the margin to over 40 points thanks to some stifling defense and consistent play in transition. Ultimately, Arbor Prep got some massive production out of Kyle Hayes and Ke’Shaun Wyatt-Morris was able to get the bench involved down the stretch.
The final score was a 70-49 win for Arbor Prep.
Arbor Prep
Kody Freeman – Guard – 5’7″ – Senior
He was able to use his quickness to get inside off the dribble. Was able to find a few teammates in those scenarios as well. Showed off his shooting stroke, but didn’t take many bad looks.
Kyle Hayes – Forward – 6’9″ – Senior
Got down the floor well in transition and was able to finish through contact. Took a few ill advised shots early on, but played relatively efficiently. Hit a nice three pointer early on as well. As the game went on, he really started to display his skillset and was able to overcome a few unfortunate fouls. Announced as the MVP of the game. He is ranked No. 30 in Prep Hoops Michigan’s 2016 class rankings.
Ke’Shaun Wyatt-Morris – Forward – 6’4″ – Senior
Showed the ability to get shots off quickly and efficiently. Played a lot offensively in the interior zone and was able to either get off jumpers or drive it inside.
David Walker – Forward – 6’6″ – Senior
Made a really nice move in the post by staying low and working around the defender by the baseline.
Abel Melesse – Guard – 5’10” – Junior
Hit a big long range jumper right near the end of the first half.
Adrian Harrison – Guard – 5’11” – Senior
Showcased a smooth shooting stroke and connected on a big three to start the third quarter.
Julius Davis – Guard – 5’8″ – Junior
Did a nice job of being aggressive with his hands on defense. Had a nice steal in the third quarter thanks to that play.
Nick Jones – Guard – 5’10” – Senior
Stocky point guard who made an effort to stay active on defense. Had a nice drive to get to the line through contact in the third quarter.
Melvindale ABT
Elijah Smith – Forward – 6’5″ – Junior
Made his presence felt defensively thanks to his natural athleticism and his shot blocking abilities. Kept playing hard even when Melvindale was down big in the second half.
Jaunzel Woods – Guard – 6’0″ – Senior
Played aggressive on ball defense on the perimeter and did a solid job of keeping his feet in front of defenders.
Delvon Hines – Guard – 5’11” – Senior
Ran with the ball well and made a few nice passes.
Deontez Ritchie – Guard – 6’2″ – Senior
Worked hard on the boards and did a nice job of pulling down the ball with both hands. Also had decent body control on the boards.
