Here’s a look at a few interesting things from Friday night:
–Lake Clifton rallied for a 56-55 victory over Patterson in a Baltimore City match-up– and the Lakers did it in an unusual way.
The Baltimore Sun reported that senior guard Shawntaze Drake converted a four-point play with two seconds to go that stunned the Clippers. Drake nailed a three and then added the ensuing free throw.
He finished with a game-best 23 points. Rasheed Brown scored 19 to help the Lakers rally after blowing a big early lead.
Terrell Turmon led Patterson with 17 points but it wasn’t enough.
–The Class 4A battle between Henry A. Wise and Eleanor Roosevelt down in Prince George’s County looked very similar. The Washington Post reported that Naji Marshall nailed two free throws with a half-second left that gave Roosevelt a 53-51 victory over Wise Friday.
Marshall drew a foul and went to the line in a 51-51 tie. He made two foul shots to finish with 26 points plus eight rebounds as Roosevelt pulled out a tough victory.
Roosevelt actually took a 12-point lead in the first quarter but almost could not hold it. Marshall’s big plays all over the court made the difference in this one.
Darron Barnes led Wise with 16 points in the loss.
