While it is too premature to compile rankings in this class there is no doubt a handful of prospects that have already made it obvious that they are ones to keep an eye on.
Two names that have long been stated with the best in this class are Jovan Blackshear and Jaelen House, a pair of 5’9″ Shadow Mountain point guards. While similar in stature both Blackshear and House have completely different styles of play. Jovan, an Oakland, California native, is a quick and explosive playmaker that uses his speed and athleticism to make plays on both ends of the floor. Jaelen, the son of Eddie House, is a highly skilled scorer that uses his handle and change of pace to create scoring opportunities for himself and others.
Josh Green, the younger brother of 6’5″ class of 2016 prospect Jay Green, is an emerging prospect as well. The 6’3″ guard has good size for his position, can make plays on both ends, and has held his own against some of the best competition in any class.
Two wings to keep an eye on are Majok Deng and Walter Talley. Deng, a 6’4″ athlete out of Salpointe Catholic, is a hard working prospect with a great motor. He runs the floor, finishes well in transition, and can also knock down open shots. He’s raw but brings great energy to the floor and will only continue to improve his skills. Talley, a 6’6″ forward at Desert Vista, is a man among boys. The Coney Island native moved to the state of Arizona this year and certainly made his presence felt on the travel circuit with I-10 Celtics. He is a physical forward with versatile abilities as he can make shots, attack the rim off the dribble, and score with his back to the basket.
Three guards who have already made an impact for their school’s varsity roster include Aidyn Albright, Trent Brown, and Reed Myers. All three players are starters for their teams, who all rank among the best in their respective divisions. Albright is a poised wing that can put the ball in the basket, Brown a floor general that can make plays for others, and Myers a lights out shooter with ice in his veins.
This will certainly be a fun group to keep an eye on.
