We might throw around the term high-academic kid a little liberally. In Zach Knollenberg’s case, he truly is in the elite class of student-athletes in the entire state, and possibly the country with a 4.0 GPA and a 35 ACT.
“I have visited St. Olaf and Carleton,” Knollenberg said. “I think if I play basketball in Minnesota, it will be for one of those two schools. I have talked to a few D2s out-of-state; my high school coach has been contacted by Upper Iowa and by Nebraska-Kearney. If I just focus on academics, I’m looking at the University of Alabama, University of Minnesota, Baylor University, Stanford University, Duke University, Vanderbilt University, University of Chicago, Columbia University, and a few others.”
Add in that Zach is a skilled 6-6 forward, and you’ve got one heck of a prospect. He plays for a small school at Spectrum, and their season starts tonight against Nova Classical.
“We have our first high school game tonight,” Zach said. “I have extremely high expectations for this year. We have worked really hard to instill a winning attitude in our program, and I feel like it is going to pay off this year.”
On a college decision date, Zach says “I think my decision will come late because I am still considering many options.”
