We will preview the preseason candidates over the next couple of weeks. As the season goes along new candidates can emerge for the award.
Our next candidate for Mr. Oklahoma is 2016 Lawton Ike Combo Guard Darius Roy. Many players utilize the summer circuit to hone more exposure. Roy was textbook perfect in the technique while with the Oklahoma Wizards 17U.
Roy had a breakout weekend at one of the largest tournaments of the summer. He was on fire all weekend at the Mullens High Profile High School Tournament.
Mercer was impressed with Roy throughout the summer and pulled the trigger to offer him following the Mullens High Profile High School Tournament.
Standing at 6’2″, Roy is a player who can do it all. He drives the ball and can spread the ball around to set up his teammates. He can also light it up in all areas of scoring.
Defensively, Roy’s length can cause problems on the perimeter. He uses his quickness to keep pace with speedy guards.
Roy took advantage of the early signing period and signed with Mercer University mid-November.
The Lawton Ike Eagles finished last season as the Class 5A State Champions. Prep Hoops Okahoma has the Eagles atop the 5A preseason rankings.
Although Roy has already signed, he will still be a player to keep an eye on as Roy and his team aim for back to back state championships.
