Recruiting Report: Ty Hoglund (2016)

<h2>October 15th Update</h2><p><strong>Ty Hoglund</strong> is one of the most productive 2016 talents in South Dakota. When he is healthy and playing, his teams win. That’s why he was conference MVP a year ago, why his team was two scores from winning a state title, and it’s why the Schoolers were better when he was playing at 100 percent.</p> <p>All the division two and NAIA scholarship schools in South Dakota are aware of Ty’s impact on a game and he’s set a visit schedule of four schools so far.</p> <p>“It’s been good,” said Hoglund of the past couple months. “I've visited Northern State and Dakota State so far this fall. I have visits to Dakota Wesleyan and Morningside to come.”</p> <p>Will Hoglund have a school picked by December? That’s not certain but what is for certain is that Dell Rapids is competing for the top spot in Class A.</p> <p>“I am very ready for the season! I have worked hard over the summer to become a better player in all parts of my game. Our biggest challenge will be getting ready for the varsity level.</p> <p>“I am the only returning starter and we don't have many other guys who saw a ton of minutes last year, but we are ready for another great year!”</p> <p>There are many seniors to replace but PHD liked what we saw from some of the younger players at Dell Rapids this spring and summer. Sheldon Siemonsma and Mason Peter are a couple of juniors of note that didn’t play a ton a year ago but will help.</p> <p>The team will be led by Hoglund though as he will need to be the ultra playmaker scoring and creating for others at a high rate. The senior seems ready for it.</p> <p>“There's always improvement to be made everywhere, but I feel my shooting has gotten a lot better and my defense improved a ton over the summer,” Ty finished up.</p> <h2>March 24th Update</h2><p><strong>Ty Hoglund</strong> had about as good of a junior season as a person can ask for. </p> <p>He produced 20 points, six rebounds, two and half assists, and two steals per game while earning the Dak-12 Conference MVP award. </p> <p>Hoglund also took his team to the state championship game but missed a pair of game tying chances in the final ten seconds falling 53-50 to Aberdeen Roncalli.</p> <p>Ty scored 17 points hitting a pair of triples plus he grabbed six boards.</p> <p>“My junior season went great!” said Higlund. “Our top moments were being crowned Dakota XII conference champs, regular season Dakota XII conference champs.</p> <p>“We won region 3 which had three of the top six teams in the state in it, and we got second at the state tournament. We finished with a record of 22-3, which was one of the best in Dell Rapids history.”</p> <p>Hoglund will join up with the Dakota Schoolers for the upcoming four months traveling to several different Midwestern areas for the Grassroots hoops season.</p> <p>“Yes I will be playing with the Schoolers still,” Hoglund told PHD. “I'm very excited to continue my exposure to colleges and hopefully it grows a lot.</p> <p>“My goal for the summer and spring is to progress my game so I can get to the level I want to be at. It's not going to be easy, but it will be worth it.”</p> <p>Hoglund is already one of the more highly recruited juniors in South Dakota.</p> <p>“I’ve heard from Augustana, Morningside, Northern State, Dakota Wesleyan, and then I've had a couple division one schools just introduce me to their program. Nothing serious at all with division one though right now.”</p> <h2>Ty Hoglund - January 21st Update</h2><p>Six-foot-2, 175 pound junior guard <strong>Ty Hoglund </strong>has knocked out 18.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, three steals, and two assists per game for undefeated Dell Rapids (8-0). So far the season has been a success.</p> <p>“The key for our success is to just keep performing night in and night out,” Hoglund said. “We have a lot of weapons on our squad so if somebody has a bad night we always have each other to lean on.</p> <p>“If we keep defending like we are right now, we should be pretty competitive in the long run. We are all on board for what we need to accomplish, and it's exciting to think about.”</p> <p>Augustana College, Dakota Weslyan, Dakota State, Morningside (IA), and Briar Cliff (IA) have been in contact with Hoglund who updated Prep Hoops Dakotas on the schools showing the most interest.</p> <p>“Still the same schools, but Dakota Weslyan and Dakota State Universuty have shown most interest,” said Hoglund. “No idea where I'm going, but I'm waiting for one school in particular.”</p> <h2>Ty Hoglund - Dec 27 update</h2><div> </div> <div>Dell Rapids (SD) junior shooting guard Ty Hoglund has seen some interest from area Division II and NAIA schools, including Augustana College (SD), Dakota Weslyan (SD), Morningside (IA) and Briar Cliff (IA). For the moment, however, Hoglund is focused on his Junior season. </div> <div> </div> <div>With what Hoglund refers to as a passionate squad, he and the team were ready to start the year- "Practices were tough. We love to compete, but we were ready to beat new people." - </div> <div> </div> <div>Hoglund has put an extra effort on the defensive side of the game. - "I grew up with such an offensive mindset. It's a work in progress, but I believe my defense is what will help me reach the next level." -</div> <div> </div> <div>While he has received some collegiate interest, Ty has his team in focus. - "I'm more concerned with Dell Rapids having a successful year. I want to let my talent draw [colleges] in and really look at the future in the summer." -</div>
