Mitchell had a wrist injury that cut his winter season short as a freshman (scored ten points a game in one of Minnesota’s top conferences) and then he was hurt again in the spring but was able to quickly recover to play in July.
Several schools have come to Lakeville this month to check on his talent and progress.
“Virginia has been here, Wisconsin-Green Bay, and Drake have been here, Minnesota is coming sometime soon, and Vanderbilt is coming either next week or the one after,” Mitchell explained. “Clemson is coming to open gym Wednesday.”
Shae was also a guest of the University of Minnesota a couple weeks ago for the Kent State football game and Minnesota’s Saturday basketball work-out/practice.
“It was great,” Shae said of his time on the Minnesota campus. “I loved watching practice and the atmosphere was amazing. The football game was live, that was the first time going to a football game there so it was pretty cool. I’d love to go there.”
The way Minnesota plays seems to relate to the game of Shae Mitchell extremely well.
“I think I relate to more high tempo, running style instead of the slow running offense type,” Mitchell said.
“I think they just never had the type of team to do that but Richard Pitino is intense and I like intense coaches. I hope I could get an offer from there someday though!”
The Gophers are currently scheduled to have five scholarships open up in the 2018 class and Mitchell is obviously on the Minnesota radar already considering he has been a guest of the team before his sophomore season started.
