Triton is normally known for football. I know, because they used to pound my classmates and me into the dirt in the mid-2000s. They’ve sent plenty of kids off to college football, but I couldn’t tell you the last Triton grad to play college hoops. That’s about to change soon.
There’s no doubt that Triton senior Isaiah Wannarka is a prospect. Despite flying under the radar a bit in the grassroots season, he drew rave reviews from the staff at the Comets Showcase a few weekends back. Word coming out of St. Cloud after the event was that Wannarka was a bouncy guard with solid shooting and good rebounding ability for his position.
Some schools have already started recruiting Wannarka, and if they’re reading this, I’m sorry for blowing up your sleeper recruit! But we have a feeling that this attention was coming for him sooner or later.
“I’m set on playing college hoops,” Wannarka told NHR. “I had my first visit to Gustavus last Friday, and they want me to go there. But I’m going to wait until after the season to make a decision. Other schools I’m talking to are Viterbo, Bethel, Bethany Lutheran, Wayne State and Crown College.”
Wannarka goes to the gym every day after school and works on ball-handling, shooting and different moves around the basket. When asked about what kind of college he’d like to attend, he said “anywhere I can get a good education and have a fun squad to play with. I’m not too picky!” He also added that the size of the town did not matter.
He’ll be in the spotlight again at the NHR Combine on October 17, as he is looking to make another splash.
“I’m very excited,” he said. “I’m just trying to do the same thing that I did at the Comets Showcase.”
