Last year was a different one for Osseo, they fell to around the .500 mark and didn't the late run they usually do. Hidden in that season was a nice year for then junior point guard Allen Anderson.
The Osseo leader put up just under a dozen points per game while quarterbacking the team's offense. After his season was over Allen joined Grassroots Minnesota and has an excellent four months (April through July).
“Larry Suggs really helped me develop a more of a pick n roll game,” said Anderson. “He taught me how to come off screens and when to shoot that's where most of my success came from this season.
“Out of all of my years of playing (Grassroots Basketball) I'll have to say I really enjoyed playing with Grassroots the most. Brian (Sandifer), Larry (Suggs), they showed so much love. They really helped my recruitment.
“It's fun playing with younger players like Jalen Suggs and Terry Lockett (both Minnehaha Academy standouts), they can really hold their own on the top level, I learned a lot from them.”
Now Allen is ready for his final year with Osseo and it should be a fun season.
“Man we are going to be a fun team to watch this year,” Anderson said. “We have a few returners, a lot of good talent from the JV squad from last year, and we added Damario Armstrong so it's going to be a good season.
“I need to be more of a leader this year and be just a floor general out there. As a team we all need to be on the same page on both ends of the floor we're going to be small but we can use that to our advantage this season.”
Allen picked up an offer from Minot State over the summer and has other schools watching close.
“As of now I set up an official visit with Minot State for Sep 17th and a unofficial with Winona State a little later and I was recently contacted by University of Buffalo, Coastal Carolina and Iona University.
“I'm not committing anywhere until April because I feel like schools are just now getting a chance to see me play after playing with Grassroots Minnesota.”
Allen has South Dakota State watching him this evening, Drake watched him a couple weeks ago and of course to took that official visit to Minot State over the weekend.
Update from 4/24/15 by Alex Conover
It was a simple decision for PG Allen Anderson to play summer ball with Grassroots.
“(Coach) Brian Sandifer has a lot of connections with college coaches, and he said he would put me in a position where I can shine… and he did,” Anderson told NHR. His list of interested schools reflects that.
“North Dakota University, Minot State, Jackson State University, Western Illinois and UC-Davis,” Anderson listed. “I want to land an offer before June… I just want one on the table so I can have some relief. I'm sure I'll get one as long as I keep playing the way I have been, staying aggressive and hungry.”
Anderson plays his high school ball at Osseo, where his family name is well known. His older brother Aaron was a star with the Orioles who went on to play at North Dakota and now professionally in Australia. Allen was just a 6th-grader when Aaron was a senior, but he still remembers those days and takes advice from his brother whenever possible.
“Aaron has helped me a lot on what to do and how to handle situations in games,” Allen said. “We worked out a lot when he was here at 43 Hoops. It’s great to see him doing well in Australia.”
