The 6’1” combo guard is shifty and one of the best shooters in the state. He can score off the bounce and is especially lethal pulling up for jumpers off the dribble. He can force shots at times and needs to get stronger, but he makes things happen offensively and could develop into a stud in college if he improves defensively and falls in love with the weight room.
West Liberty, Davis & Elkins, Urbana, Charleston and Cincinnati Christian are all recruiting Ethan at the moment. Urbana, Charleston and Cincinnati Christian have all offered and a West Liberty offer could be in the works as well. Ethan likes Charleston the most right now and they’ve been on him for a long time and were his first offer. He’s got a visit to West Liberty on September 5th. Ethan is hoping to find a school where he can play a lot of minutes while getting a quality education.
Ethan describes himself as a crafty scoring guard, which couldn’t e more fitting. He is focused on getting stronger and faster and wants to be a better decision maker with the ball in his hands as well. He feels like the grassroots season really helped him improve, because he got used to a different style of play and a different offense as well.
Newport comes into the season as a potential dark horse in the 9th region. Covington Catholic lost two big pieces from last season and Ben Weyer is the only returnee from Newport Central Catholic’s big three. If they can find some consistent production from players outside of Ethan they could surprise some people. Ethan says their goals are to compete for a 9th region All “A” title and the 9th region crown as well. He feels like if they play team defense and everyone stays out of trouble they can meet those goals.
