DeVontae Cobb brings six years of basketball experience to Prep Hoops and Prep Hoops Next through coaching and scouting. A true student of the game, he has developed a keen eye for analyzing, breaking down, and evaluating talent, teams, and game strategy, drawing from his high school and collegiate playing experience along with the mentorship of several respected basketball coaches. Beyond scouting, DeVontae is deeply passionate about player development and the X’s and O’s of the game. When he’s not in the gym evaluating prospects, he’s on the sidelines coaching and mentoring the next generation of athletes. Since joining Prep Hoops in 2020, he has been dedicated to covering Texas basketball and continues to make an impact in the Dallas, Texas basketball community.

Jay Frye brings over 20 year’s worth of experience to Prep Hoops as a coach, scout and analyst. Along with his coverage at Prep Hoops, Jay operates the Noble Classic, a series of premier high school basketball events. He has contributed to Prep Hoops since 2023 and is based in Dallas, TX.

Charles has been with Prep Hoops since 2022 and is very invested in the Houston high school basketball scene. He has been an assistant coach/statistician in AAU for numerous organizations including DN Houston and Bayou City Hoops and is now a Director of Basketball Operations for HABC Bulldogs NY2LA. Charles is all about helping the high school basketball athletes get to college and earn their opportunities.

Donald Tatum is a local sportswriter in Louisiana and found his love for the basketball game while serving in the military overseas and coaching basketball in his free time. Donald is a graduate of Grambling State University and holds degrees in English Literature, English Education, Computer Information Systems, Business Management and Marketing. He is a retired military officer, and current Cyber Security professional for the Air Force in Bossier City. Donald hopes to share information about local athletes in order to provide a platform for players from smaller communities with the skill and potential to excel at the next level.

Thomas started with Prep Hoops in October of 2023. He graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Sports Administration. After graduating, he started his sports career with the Houston Rockets where he currently works. Thomas is looking forward to discovering the best talent in Texas.

Marcus Ebow is a former high school all state selection (TX) , Division I basketball player (Sam Houston State University) and concluded his collegiate career as an all conference selection at Minnesota State-Moorhead (Division II)
After one year coaching at his college alma mater he returned to Texas to begin his career as a high school coach in Texas. With over 15 years on the basketball scene both interscholastically and AAU/Summer circuits Coac Ebow has developed strong relationships and ties throughout the state and country.
Having coached, scouted, analyzed and mentored numerous high school, college, and professional athletes Coach Ebow aims to continue to help athletes gain exposure and opportunities to achieve their specific goals.

Mark McKnight brings over 25 years of experience at the heart of grassroots basketball in Central Texas, offering a rare blend of on-the-ground coaching insight and a trained scout’s eye for talent. As a co-founder of the pioneering ATX Basketball program and longtime Athletic Director of the Greater Central Texas Youth Association (ATX-Boys Basketball), McKnight has helped shape the competitive landscape of youth basketball in the region. His programs have consistently produced high-level teams that have competed in top-tier showcase tournaments across the country. Throughout his career, McKnight has mentored and developed hundreds of young athletes—many of whom have gone on to play at the collegiate and professional levels. His legacy also includes former players now serving as head coaches at the high school level, further extending his influence on the game. Originally from Queens, NY, McKnight cut his teeth in the game on the famed playgrounds and tournaments of New York City. After high school and a brief stint at Hunter College, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he continued to play competitively in Europe, including stops in Germany and Belgium. McKnight has contributed to the basketball ecosystem not only as a coach but as a respected evaluator and event organizer. His work includes roles at the Texas Top 100 Combine, Great American Shootout, and the South Region AAU, as well as collaborations with CMD Sports Group Consulting. He has helped plan and facilitate scouting events, individual and team showcases, and skills clinics at major programs including the University of Texas, Baylor University, and Texas A&M. Today, McKnight leverages his deep knowledge of player development and game dynamics as a scout content writer. He provides talent evaluations, game analysis, and insightful coverage of players and programs across the region. His writing reflects a seasoned perspective rooted in years of sideline experience, with a focus on uncovering the next generation of standout athletes. Beyond basketball, McKnight leads a mentoring initiative called A Part of Many, partnering with schools and churches to support the growth of young men ages 12–18 through sports, life skills, and leadership development.
