made his debut with the Sailors over the weekend.
If his play is any indication of what things will look like this season, Columbus may have gotten their new lead ball-handler, scorer and playmaker.
A combo guard that can do a little bit of everything, Cook-Berns put it all on display against Western Dubuque. Grabbing rebounds and going coast-to-coast to finish on a Euro-step, in attack mode and creating space on baseline step backs to know down a jumper, manipulating the pick-and-roll, nailing open three-pointers and more. The senior-to-be appears to have been handed over the navigation of the ship for the Sailors.

was on attack mode all night long. Whether he was defending or playing offense, the junior was either doing what he could to get into passing lanes and force turnovers, or working to get down hill and drive to the basket. With the ability to finish with either hand, Cook-Berns got to the basket and finished with soft touch around the rim.

lit it up from deep almost any change he got.
Listed as a point guard, Cook-Berns may need to lobby to get that changed to shooting guard, as he looked automatic from three in Des Moines. With a quick release and looking to launch basically any time he got a touch, Cook-Berns shot just under 32% from three last season for Waterloo West, but he’s clearly been working on his jumper this offseason. Look for him to be among the leading scorers again for the WaHawks this winter.
