made a big jump in the rankings in large part because of development and production. He does not look anything like he did last season. He is bigger, added extended range to his jump shot and his more aggressive on both sides of the ball. On top of all that he uses his new muscle to work his way to the goal, checking all the offensive boxes. Pineville is improving every season, and Birdlong looks like he will be the player to get them back to their intimidating days just a few years ago.

Birdlong continues to grow taller, seems like an inch every time he steps in the gym, and his game, while simple, remains highly effective. He’s a smart, system-oriented player who makes the right play at the right time. Capable of knocking down the long ball and finishing at the rim, Birdlong also pays attention to the small details—playing tough defense, moving without the ball, and finding teammates cutting to the basket. His game is developing rapidly, and his solid showing at the showcase exemplifies how consistent effort and growth over time pay off. This season at Pineville, he will have plenty of opportunities to display his steadily growing frame and skill set, likely earning big varsity minutes as a probable starter.

(2028, Pineville High School) has been a joy to watch because of his demonstrable growth. Playing significant minutes as an underclassman at a competitive 5A school can be overwhelming, but Birdlong has risen to the challenge. Over the summer, his game evolved from a complementary role to a legitimate offensive threat. His confidence is evident in his willingness to attack the rim, experiment off the dribble, and knocking down shots. He is a fearless competitor and that is a skill that generally comes with age, and he is ahead of schedule. It’s exciting to witness a young player’s game slow down, and Birdlong appears to be entering that phase of his development.
