Really liked Ansong’s activity throughout the game. He is a tireless rim runner who runs like a deer in transition. He scored the basketball in different ways playing above the rim, and using post moves. Ansong used his length to rebound and contest shots. He would be a great get at the division one level or phenomenal grab if he were to fall through the cracks to the junior college level.

I liked all the little things Ansong did on both ends of the court. For starters, Ansong tipped a few loose balls back to where his team could control possession. Ansong also protected the rim and set strong screens. As a scorer, Ansong had a couple reverse layups where he used the rim as protection. Not the most skilled big you will see but Ansong helps you win games at the prep school level and will do the dirty work in college as well.

Fresh off announcing he’ll be reclassifying into the 2026 class and doing a prep year at Hargrave Military Academy, Yaw Ansong’s first month of his AAU season has seen him showcase much of his skillset that makes him an intriguing prospect. Ansong has been seen providing a strong interior presence on both the offensive and defensive side of the floor— running the floor in transition, catching dump offs out the dunker spot and finishing above the rim, crashing the glass and coming down with rebounds, and altering and blocking shot attempts at the rim. Ansong continues to also show improved footwork. Look for Ansong’s recruitment to pick up a little bit of steam heading into the month of May.

Between foul trouble and the score ultimately getting out of hand, Ansong played limited minutes but was impactful in his time on the floor. He controlled the paint on both ends with his size and length, collecting a handful of tough rebounds in traffic on both ends and impacting opponents’ shots at the rim. Ansong was effective in keeping things simple offensively as a threat to catch and finish off his teammates’ penetration or take advantage of mismatches in the post. One of the top unsigned bigs in the region, with upside left to tap into.

showcased his ability to finish around the rim. Whether it was catching it out the pick and roll, grabbing offensive rebounds and going back up strong, or fighting for good position deep in the paint and finishing right at the rim, Ansong showed the different ways he can get the ball in the paint and finish at the basket. Ansong was also 6/6 from the free throw line and grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with his 14 points against St. Rose.

hangs his hat on being an interior presence on the defensive end. Standing at 7’0′ tall, Ansong is often seen blocking shots at the rim and being active on the glass and securing rebounds.
Still improving on the offensive end and refining his game to consistently impact the game on offense, look for Ansong to put together a strong senior season that showcases not only his defensive skillset but things he’s working on the offensive end. Look for Ansong’s recruitment to take shape as the year goes and see some schools get more involved.

Ansong has the makings of a diamond in the rough. He’s raw, but there’s no teaching 6’11. The physical tools are all there. The next step is solidifying his game as a big. He can defend the rim and block shots without leaving his feet. He’s a blur in transition, and has that same speed as a roll man. He’s developed a smooth transition handle after training with a former Division I for the last few years. He’s swift on the break and outraced speedy guards in transition. He needs to improve his feel for the game, and I’d like to see him stay engaged every second he’s on the floor, but a talent like his is more than worth monitoring over his senior year.

The Union Catholic big man continues to improve and looks like one of the better under-the-radar prospects in the state off New Jersey and beyond. The 7-footer is an intriguing shot blocker who has shown flashes of being able to stretch the floor.

Ansong is a mobile center with lots of ability to do almost anything on the court using his impressive 6’11” frame to dominate games. He is a force to be reckoned with in the paint as he will not be denied when going up for the throw-down. He moves like a guard almost and can catch defenders off guard with his speed and quickness with the ball in his hands. Ansong is not afraid to challenge anyone in the paint and does an excellent job of dive-cutting to the basket. On defense, he is a defensive menace around the rim looking to swat any shot that is even near him, making offensive players think twice before looking to challenge him.
