is more of a threat than his defenders anticipate and he can blow by them if they play him too far out. Townsend also wisely dishes it off if his opponents close in on him or he can use his floater to shoot over taller players. In addition to his offensive skillset, Townsend is a sneaky defender and looks to poke the ball away when his opponents least expect it.

play a few times over the last few years. Although he’s not the tallest guy on the court, he makes his presence felt by playing with a lot of tenacity. His go to move on offense is typically driving to the rim, but he can shoot pretty well too. On defense, he uses his speed and lateral quickness to stay in front of his guy. Occasionally he comes up with steals.

Something I learned about Townsend this week is that he’s uber competitive. The PG orchestrated the offense, finding teammates for open buckets, when he wasn’t picking his spots for shots. His leadership is tangible as he has a Pied Piper effect, gathering his troops together to keep them focused on a common goal.

I’m telling you, people are really going to enjoy Townsend in this town. He already plays with a high IQ, and has natural leadership qualities. He didn’t get a tone of time this week, however he played in all four contest, scoring and grabbing a couple of rebounds in the game against Red Mountain.

Townsend is sure to be a fan favorite during his high school career. One of the toughest players pound for pound, the PG seems to fit seamlessly in the Longhorns system. Expect the scrappy PG to have a cerebral impact for the Longhorns on both sides of the ball.

One of the toughest, smartest players in the class. Townsend is extremely effective getting into the lane and playing amongst the trees. He played off two feet, using head and ball fakes to freeze defenders. His best skill was his draw and dish ability as he collapsed the defense several times before setting up his teammates for dimes.
