Perkins is another prospect we’ve already spotlighted in the fall league but wanted to do so again during our last week of coverage. Making some smart passes, Perkins hit cutters, post entry passes and kickouts on the wing. Having a player in a fall league who is unselfish and able to read the defense makes a big difference and Perkins passing ability has been among the best I’ve seen in the Midwest Cincinnati fall league.
A prospect who stood out at our Prep Hoops Sophomore ID Camp, Perkins continues to perform at events we cover with a strong game on Sunday in the Midwest Cincy fall league. I like how Perkins can handle the basketball through traffic and use his size to see over the defense and make passes. Perkins had a nice sweep and go that led to an and-1 layup and hit a sweet mid-range pull-up jumper. Monroe is a program on the rise and I think they could surprise some people this winter with all the talent they return.
Perkins was another player on this team who did his best work off the ball as a cutter. I was impressed by the strength Perkins played with in the paint, getting fouled on a couple layups and getting to the foul line. Maybe his best move of the day came in transition where Perkins used a fake pass to get an easy layup. After scoring 6 PPG as a freshman, Perkins has a chance to really blossom this winter for a Monroe program that is coming off a 16 win season.
Solid combo guard that showed some skills in the early morning portion of the day. Could get to the rack consistently off the bounce through traffic. Fundamentally was sound when gaining pressure from D. Nice passer who will look to post feed in the 1/2 court setting or pitch ahead for open guys in transition. Splashed in a couple 3’s with one going off the bounce using a ball screen and couple other catch and shoots. Footwork looks good. Possessed quick hands defensively for a couple take-a-ways as well.
Perkins knocked down a deep top of the key 3-pointer and then followed it up with a couple pull-up 3-pointers and a quick release catch and shoot 3-pointer in the lone game I caught of his team. While that was impressive, his left-handed layup against a shot contest was the play that caught my eyes the most out of any of Perkins on Sunday.
