Gilbert had a career-high 26 points in Newark’s victory over defending state champion Olentangy Orange over the weekend in what was another statement performance this season for the unbeaten Wildcats. An elite shooter of the basketball, Gilbert has enough wiggle off the dribble to attack closeouts and Newark’s quick ball movement makes them a tough cover. Gilbert is a standout multi-sport athlete for Newark, as he’s also a top golfer in the OCC.

Newark is rolling right now and Gilbert is a part of their three headed monster of experienced upperclassmen. More than just a specialist, Gilbert has a quick first step and a little wiggle as a ball handler when attacking closeouts. His elite shooting ability forces the defense to close out hard on him and even then he’s still able to make heavily contested looks off movement. Talented senior guard who is a name you’ll see on the all OCC team at the end of the season.
