Expert Analysis
Aaron Proia | Prep Hoops Scout
-One of my absolute favorite role players in the area, Heflin’s motor and willingness to do the little things make most of his minutes effective stretches for the Cougars. He’s a great shot-blocker for his size, rotates really well to guard multiple possessions, and finds opportunities to sneak in to grab big offensive rebounds to either score on the putback or kick out to a teammate to set something up. His unselfish team-first approach as he plays his role to perfection is a big part of the reason why many expect OLMC to repeat as BCL Champions.

-One of the unsung heroes of an OLMC that has gotten off to a 24-4 start this season, Heflin serves a vital defensive role on this team. Heflin’s wingspan allows him to get to a ton of blocks that the shooter thinks that they can get off cleanly, serving as a good help side and on-ball shot-blocker that initiates fast breaks quite often for his team with blocks or rebounds. Heflin plays within himself, thriving in his role as a screen-setter, rebounder, and defender that affects the game with his energy/effort. Elliciting that type of buy-in speaks to his unselfish approach to the game, well-liked by his teammates and the coaching staff alike.

-He doesn’t impact the game very often as a scorer but was effective in his minutes off the bench as an energy big that blocks shots, runs the floor, and rebounds. Heflin isn’t an extraordinary leaper with standout measurables but he rotates exceedingly well to the block from the wings to contest shots and never does too much on the offensive end of the floor to disrupt the game plan. Had several dumpoffs and kicks to teammates on the perimeter that weren’t converted into points. I like that he’s playing within the team concept but would like to see what he can do as a play-finisher around the basket.
