Joshua Burish | Prep Hoops Scout
You have to appreciate Nguyen’s grittiness on both ends of the floor. He’s a hounding on-ball defender with the timing to force tie-ups and generate steals. Offensively, he blends that toughness with skill — getting low on drives, collapsing the lane, and finding spot-up shooters. He shows juice attacking closeouts or beating defenders off the dribble with control, and he has the balance to absorb contact and finish. He’s also capable of connecting from distance off the catch.

The 5’10” senior lead guard has a lot of speed to his game. Like what he brings as a floor general that can push in the open floor with his head up to make a play. Has blow by ability in one on one situations as well.

The Niles West point guard, Nguyen, caught my eye initially with his consistent defensive stance where he maintained a low position and used his quickness to slide with ball-handlers. Additionally, he showed great hustle and effort following up on missed shots in transition.

Niles West product was an efficient offensive playmaker. Showed decent footwork with the ball to go along with a smooth pump fake. Started strong in the first 5v5 game with a jumper from the elbow. He moved well off the ball and knocked down a pair of open jumpers in the second half. Also made great passes in transition while getting involved on the defensive glass. Communication defensively was on-point too.
