Trevin is another player I saw for the first time last summer, I do remember his defense and speed standing out. After seeing him again a few weeks ago, he clearly has improved his game on the offensive end. He was the main ball handler for Hastings and was getting to the rim at-will. It didn’t, however, feel like he was pressing or was ever out of control. Russell has a much better handle, is incredibly strong for his grade and height, and has no problem going right or left off-the-bounce. His strength allowed him to finish a few layups through contact. There were a few players that told me he was the toughest kid to keep in front of on defense all-summer. I think the Saxons have found their point guard for the next 3 years.

Russell showed some intriguing skills and upside at the Prep Hoops Michigan Freshman Showcase. Russell brings energy to both ends of the floor and is a willing defender that seems to take pride in it. I like his speed with the ball and the ferociousness that he attacks the rim with.

After playing this spring/summer with Young Hustle, it makes sense that Trevin was the hustle guy on team 4. Despite being 5’7, he has above average strength and speed for a guard. Furthermore, his motor on defense and willingness to guard anyone make him an above average defender. Russell needs to improve his shooting and off-ball movement to elevate his game, but I was impressed overall with the physical tools and mentality of the Hastings guard.
