is a dynamic and crafty guard with fantastic scoring ability. He has a great nose for the ball, showing a knack for ripping ball-handlers clean with his hand-eye timing and anticipation for the dribble. Lewis doesn’t have to over-dribble to get the shot he’s looking for, and his ability to keep the ball on a string made it difficult for defenders to pressure him or speed him up as he played at his own pace. He smoothly shifted gears, changing speeds, directions, or stopping on a dime to keep defenders off balance, utilizing hesitation moves and quick bursts to create and maintain separation. As a proficient three-point shooter, he was capable of hitting shots from beyond the arc consistently. Lewis also played with a lot of heart and determination.

This is my 3rd or 4th time getting to watch Trae slide into the shooting guard slot on his team and he continually has proven himself as one of the best snipers in Houston. The scary part is he also has sneaky athleticism that allows him to rise up for smooth touch layups at the basket and can create his own shot off the dribble from deep range. He played a huge role as both a shooter and primary ballhandler for Grand Oaks last year and will be looked to as a senior to shoulder a lot of the offensive load for the upcoming season.

scorched the nets with a great looking shooting stroke, a beautiful follow-through, a snappy quick release, and deadly range. Lewis put on a lights-out shooting display, especially when spotting up or coming off screens. Lewis also drew extra attention from the defense when playing off the ball, as they attempted to deny him space or the ball due to his sharpshooting prowess.

Trae played the role of a sharpshooter in his Houston Defenders 16u squads games on Saturday afternoon. Lewis constantly hurt the defense from behind the three point line, using screens and quick dribble moves to give himself enough space to pull up over the defender’s outstretched hands. Lewis is very good at getting to his spot and either draining the shot off the catch and shoot or creating an open look if he has to himself. Trae also possesses good lateral quickness on defense, beating his matchup to their spot and exposing their weaknesses. Look for Lewis to play a major role on the Grand Oaks varsity squad this season and make a statement.
