Jason Johnson | Prep Hoops Scout
I first saw him as a sophomore being a shooter only but with upside. Fast forward a couple years, is now a scorer, a Johns Hopkins commit and will finish his high school career a 1000+ point scorer. The impact he had on his team was immense. Newton North leaned on him heavily in the Braintree game. A solid college ready frame, sees the ball well off the rim rebounding understanding the trajectory, anticipation of where to jump and get the ball. Strong hands difficult to get the ball from either dribbling, rebounding or loose balls. Scoring as he has a nice follow through, makes fadeaway’s and finishes with the opposite hand at the rim when needed. He has a coaching type mentality where he can give feedback to teammates leading to more auspicious decisions.

Swing, one of the top scorers in Massachusetts as a junior at Newton North, averaged 24.0 PPG last winter. A well-built wing that seems to get better in big moments, Swing has the complete package as a scorer. He’s a solidly built wing that has the strength to overpower smaller defenders and the skill and athleticism to take bigger defenders off the bounce on the perimeter. He can score at all three levels, but is particularly effective in the mid-range, where he does a great job of elevating into his jumper. He’s a tough offensive rebounder, intelligent off ball cutter, and never takes a play off. We were in the gym last winter when he went for 43 against Lawrence, and wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him lead the MIAA in scoring this winter while leading Newton North on a deep run in the state tournament.

Swint is coming off a big-time junior season for Newton North where he was the main cog of their offense. He has a very mature body that looks to be college-ready right now. The most impressive skill he possesses is an incredibly accurate three-point shot with never-ending range. He got hot in his morning game and made about four in a row. He should have a big senior season and will likely hear from high-academic D3’s.

Swint’s Newton North squad heads to North Andover, where they’ll try to spring an upset in the Round 0f 16. Maybe the best scorer in the MIAA in the class of 2025, Swint has had multiple games of 35+ this season, including a recent 43-point performance. He’s a big guard that’s comfortable handling the ball, but he thrives as a guy who can create his own shot. He’s exceptional in the mid-range where he has a soft touch on his jumper and can rise up over smaller defenders. He’s tough, competitive, and most importantly, never takes a play off. North Andover is among the favorites in Division I, but if anyone is capable of having a huge scoring night that could knock them off, Swint might be the guy.
