Another underrated prospect in the Ben L. Smith backcourt, Mann was another pivotal piece in the Eagles’ run to the NCHSAA 3A State Championship. He’s a playmaker guard with untapped potential still as an attacker off the bounce with his budding athleticism. He dished out three assists in the West Region Finals and four in their state title game victory over Southern Durham. He’s a prospect for DII and DIII programs in the region to get eyes on.

Tayshawn Mann is a prospect out of the class of 2025 who I’ve had on my eye on for a while now. I first discovered Tayshawn in August 2023, and was highly impressed with his size, length, athleticism, and physicality. At 6’3″, Mann is a strong, physical combo guard whose skillset is anchored in his athleticism and versatility. He’s an elite ball handler, a consistent shot maker on all three levels, and is a vocal leader who sets the tone from the jump. Mann is a ferocious downhill driver who loves to get out in transition and push the break. He’s a tough finisher at the rim who can execute through contact and make plays. Mann has an elite mid-range game and has worked his tail off to develop a consistent three-point look that adds another level of versatility to his game. His strength and speed enable him to penetrate the lane and create for himself and his teammates. Mann is just about everything coaches at the next level look for in a defender. He moves his feet exceptionally well for a prospect with his body type, he’s disciplined, and he’s got that get-after-it mentality on loose balls and in the trenches that give him an edge. There’s no doubt Tayshawn Mann will be Ben L. Smith’s go-to-guy in 2024-2025. I have faith he has what it takes to anchor this squads backcourt and set the tone for a season with expectations that are through the roof.

I’m glad I have another opportunity to talk about senior guard Tayshawn Mann. This is a guy I covered extensively last year and have seen develop into a mature, versatile, high IQ prospect with some serious upside. The first thing you notice about Mann is his physical presence. At 6’3”, he’s a well-sized guard who is long and athletic. Mann excels in the open court, utilizing his speed and quick decision making to create efficient fast break offense. He’s got exceptional footwork for a prospect his size and finishes at the rim through contact. Mann is a tough defender who’s got the stamina and competitiveness to lock-down opposing teams’ best shooters. An area for growth in his game is developing a more consistent three-point shot. I’ve seen him become better at this with time. If he can lock in on getting more reps with outside shooting, I have no doubt he can creep his way into the conversation of some of the best guards in the state.

Tayshawn is a gifted athlete playing point guard at Smith High School. He is a terror in the open court with the ability to grab a rebound and take it coast to coast. In the half court, he is at his best when he is attacking the basket. When he gets two feet in the paint, you can put points on the board for his team as he uses his good vision to make plays for himself and for others. Certainly, a player worth keeping a close eye on.

Mann is an intriguing combo guard to get to know given his strength and speed in space to get paint touches and make things happen off the bounce. He’s a budding guard prospect in the 2025 class who turned heads this past grassroots season with his ability to defend and create in the backcourt. He’ll be another name to keep an eye on in the Ben L. Smith High backcourt this season as he begins his junior career at the No. 25 position in the 2023-24 rankings update for North Carolina’s 2025 class.

is an emerging name to get to know after starring alongside a few other guard prospects in the
Garner Road
Select fold for their 2025 squad. He’s a relentless attacker that looks to operate off the bounce whenever he can and finish around the rim. He can finish in traffic with his length and strong frame. As he develops his outside shot and all-around shooting ability, he’ll be a guard prospect to keep an eye on this high school season at Ben L. Smith High.

is a strong, physical combo guard who has the tendency to take over games. That’s just who he is. Mann is a freak athlete and channels that into an aggressive style of play. He is an adept scorer with a wide range of offensive firepower. Mann is the kind of guard who sets the tone from the jump and goes hard until the clock hits zero. He’s vocal in the offense, unselfish with the ball, and has proven he can and will do whatever it takes to win. Mann gets most of his work done in and around the perimeter. He’s a gifted downhill driver who can get to the basket, a consistent pull-up shooter, and moves well without the ball. Mann has a high basketball I.Q. and is an elite decision-maker. He plays with purpose and poise. While scoring is a headline of his game, Mann can shift into a facilitator role when need be. He’s got excellent court vision, an everyone-eats mentality, and does the most damage when his teammates are involved. I’m impressed with what I’ve seen from Mann on defense. He’s a strong, stocky guard who isn’t afraid to put his body on the line. He moves his feet exceptionally well and can relocate in a flash on skips and switches. Manns lateral quickness is some of the best I’ve seen in the class of 2025. He makes big-time plays in the clutch and doesn’t shy away from tough defensive assignments. With a Ben L. Smith squad looking to prove their 2022-2023 playoff run wasn’t a fluke, expect

was another impressive backcourt piece in the GRBC Select rotation. He had a knack for getting rebounds out of the net and making things happen right away on the fastbreak front for his squad. He finished with 13.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg and 4.0 apg as an unselfish combo guard that used his strong frame in a variety of ways to make things happen. He’s another prospect with a bright future ahead of him at Ben L. Smith High.
