Penix, a guard out of the Winchendon School in Massachusetts, ranks #7 among the shooting guards and checks in at #38 overall in this update. The 6’4″ guard does a nice job of making plays at the rim, proving to be an efficient finisher even when defenders are close by. He’s gotten comfortable with his mid-range game and shows the ability to create shots for himself late in the shot-clock. Defensively, he can really sit in a stance and guard on the perimeter, using a nice combination of length and mobility to keep ball handlers out of the paint. He’ll play this spring and summer with RI Elite.

Penix is as solid as they come. The 6-foot-5 wing moves like a guard but has the size and strength of a big wing, so he can guard positions 1-4 and can produce offensively in a number of ways. He’s good as a slasher and finisher at the rim (and gets well above the basket for athletic dunks), but he can also knock down shots from the outside off both the catch and the dribble. He’s strong, under control, and skilled, and he plays at a nice pace. Penix is going to be in an excellent position to be a premier scorer with RI Elite’s 17u team this spring, but he’s also set up to be a very key part of Winchendon’s team next season, so his recruitment should rise moving forward.

Penix impressed with his floor game scoring the ball in different ways. His body has improved and looks like he as added some muscle to his frame. I like how Penix has great positional size which can be imposing to smaller guards who he competes against. Penix was a threat to score from behind the arc and connected on a handful of threes. He continues to develop with time. Penix should see a ton of traction at the mid major level.

Penix might’ve been Winchendon’s second most impressive player. The 6-foot-5 guard is a SHOOTER who gets his looks off super quickly and has great footwork when he’s relocating for shots. He hit a bunch of contested shots and shoots the same no matter what situation he’s in. The senior also passes the ball extremely well and sees cuts before they’re happening, which makes me think he could be even more effective with the ball in his hands. Defensively, he plays extremely hard and rebounds quite well for his size. Another scholarship guy if I had to guess who should grow into his own over his next two years at Winchendon.

Penix, a scoring guard out of the Winchendon School, checks in at #55 overall and #12 among the shooting guards. Penix is a 6’5″ guard that can really fill it up offensively, excelling in catch and shoot situations and when using his athleticism to attack the rim. He’s a big time finisher in transition, does a nice job of finishing plays as a cutter, and has deep range on his jumper. On the other end of the floor, he is able to guard up and down a position, utilizing his length and quickness to make an impact in passing lanes and also on the defensive glass.

Penix plays with a smooth, controlled pace that allows him to stay poised under pressure. He operates well in the pick-and-roll, making smart reads and creating opportunities. With his nice positional size, he sees over defenders and takes advantage of mismatches. Penix’s blend of feel and physical tools makes him a promising lead guard.

A 6’5″ scoring guard for the Winchendon School, Penix made the most of his first appearance in New England, showing off an impressive scoring ability and some defensive versatility. He can operate as a big secondary ball-handler, but shines in more of a scoring role. He knocks down shots from behind the arc, both off the bounce and in catch and shoot situations, has the ability to get to his spots in the mid-range off the bounce, and can elevate over defenders to score out of his pull-up game. He has some wiggle off the bounce, uses screens to his advantage as an off-ball mover, and can score in a variety of ways around the rim. Defensively, he can guard any spot on the perimeter and shows a high IQ as an off-ball defender. He’s a scholarship prospect, the only question that will take time to answer is at what level of D1 basketball he will eventually play.

Penix had another consistent performance this weekend.. The jumbo guard was a threat making plays for himself and others. He got paint touches on the attack and uses his quick first step to get by defenders. Penix also was effective getting to the foul line. Penix’s play earned himself a scholarship offer from Stonehill and should see more low and mid major programs get involved in his recruitment.

Penix is a smooth operating guard who can find the bucket in a plethora of ways. He took what the defense gave him regularly. He was a constant threat from three and can erupt quickly from there. He has good positional size for the lead guard spot. He is active on the glass and has good vertical explosion. He also showed he can alter shots. Tavin should see an array of low major schools get involved with his recruitment.
