One of the top scorers in southeast Ohio, Cottrill had a huge game at a showcase event at Shawnee State University that helped him move from our watchlist to a ranked player. A guard who has been playing at the varsity level since he arrived at Federal Hocking, Cottrill helped his team win a district title last season and the Lancers have a chance to defend their crown come playoff time. Regional small college programs should take a look at this under the radar guard.

Leading his team to a big-time victory, Cottrill scored 32 points in a victory over Lucasville Valley. A very quick guard, Cottrill uses his lack of size to his advantage with his change of speed and direction. Able to get in the lane and either kick to a shooter or cutter or decide to pull-up, the Lucasville Valley defense was on skates trying to contain Cottrill. Combine his dribbling ability with his ability to finish at the rim, including one impressive scoop lefty layup past a rim protector, and Cottrill is a scoring machine in southeast Ohio. Defensively, Cottrill gets after it with a couple pickpockets from opposing ball handlers. A legit small college prospect, Division III schools from around the region should check out Cottrill this season.

For the first time in over 50 years, the Federal Hocking Lancers are district champions. After falling down a few possessions in the third quarter, the Lancers got hot from the outside and once they took the lead in the fourth quarter, Cottrill iced the game from the free throw line. Finishing with 25 points, Cottrill attacked the zone off the bounce and used pump fakes to get the defense gambling, then kicking it out to open shooters. Despite having a size disadvantage, Federal Hocking did a good job on the glass and Cottrill was one of many assisting the rebounding effort for the Lancers. Cottrill is an undersized guard but his quickness was on full display and he made enough winning plays at the end to make history for his school.
