dazzled with his offensive creativity and shiftiness. He was knocking down shots on pull up three pointers, shaking off defenders with his tight handle and sharp movements, and moving the ball to the open man with ease.

Pettway was a key part of BABC’s rotation and might be their most skilled player at this point. He has such a shifty on-ball game and plays with a rhythm and cadence to his dribble package that’s really rare. His change of speed and change of direction mechanics are special, and they allow him to blow by defenders like they aren’t there. He also has all the step back and side step moves in his bag, and a beautiful jump shot from both the midrange and three. He’s a scholarship player despite his size who should have a huge season at St Thomas More next year. I also think there’s a world where he continues to develop physically and gets some mid major D1 looks as a result.

I can’t get over how strong and confident Pettway is with the ball despite looking very slim out there on the basketball court. You’d look at him and think you can push him off his spot or bother him with extreme ball pressure, but he takes it all in stride and is surprisingly physical on drives to the rim. I don’t know what the next step in Pettway’s development is — because he already can do basically everything offensively — but I don’t think D1 coaches should be dissuaded by his size (or lack thereof), because he’s shown consistently that he is stronger than he looks.

Pettway is so quick and shifty with the ball in his hands. He changes directions unbelievably well and also knows how to alter his speed to keep the defense off guard. He just doesn’t have an offensive weakness; he can shoot it, he can handle it against extreme pressure, he can make every pass you’d want a PG to make, and he’s even a good finisher at the rim for his size. He looks scrawny, but he keeps his line well and uses his off hand to stop opposing guards from reaching in. His size is certainly limiting his recruitment, but Pettway should receive a scholarship somewhere.

Pettway is the younger brother of Tanahj, who used to give me the business in AAU back in the day. Like his older brother, Tahlan is ridiculously quick and crafty with the ball in his hands. He’s a blur in transition and glides past defenders like they aren’t there. Once he gets to the rim, he has a deep bag of finishing moves and the athleticism necessary to finish over bigs. He can also shoot it from the outside. Defensively, his size hurts him a bit, but he’s amazing at back-tapping the ball and is very active with his hands. Should be a scholarship player.

Pettway runs a team like a conductor and has great timing when he getting others involved. He picks and chooses his spots with ease. His ability to make a play in the blink of an eye is one of the reasons I think he is an exciting prospect. Pettway added 11 points and 11 assists. He plays at a controlled pace and doesn’t get sped up. Pettway should be on the radar of all low to mid division one programs who need a true game managing floor general.

Pettway, another reclassified guard, had a strong summer on the EYBL with The City Rocks. A dynamic lead guard, Pettway has a great feel for the game with the ball in his hands. He’s got a tight handle, an explosive first step, and the ability to stop and change direction on a dime. He’s a crafty finisher in the paint and has a knack for knocking down mid-range jumpers off the bounce. He has next level floor vision and makes solid decisions in ball screens. Defensively, he’s a strong on-ball defender that moves his feet well and keeps opposing ball-handlers out of the paint. He’s disruptive on the ball and can quickly turn deflections or steals into transition opportunities. Already a scholarship level product, he has a chance to play his way to the highest level and could turn a lot of heads this year while running the show for St. Thomas More.

Pettway is a speedy guard who poses a constant threat with his quickness on the court. His ability to knock down shots from beyond the arc forces defenders to extend their coverage, opening up opportunities for his teammates. Despite drawing defensive attention due to his speed and shooting prowess, Pettway excels at finding his teammates in advantageous positions, showcasing his court vision and playmaking abilities. He is set to see his stock rise tremendously during the circuit.
